Super Cinema and Variety Theatre is a unique Grade II* Listed building that has survived almost intact, in its original use, making it a rare example of this building type in the north of England.

The current programme features cinema, including classic British Films, live stage shows, musicals, stand-up comedy and dance performances. Community use of the building is extensive with various operatic, dance, theatre and youth groups using the venue.

is the only Super Cinema in Britain that is operated by a Charitable Trust with the specific intention of restoring it to its former glory. is now almost 75 years old and, although maintained to the very highest standards, is in need of substantial investment to preserve and protect the building for years to come.

In March 2007, The Heritage Lottery Fund approved a Stage 1 application for funding of £1.9m to facilitate a full and authentic restoration of front of house areas and the lounge bar together with refurbishment of the building facade and re-installation of the canopy and neon lighting. Disabled facilities, including a lift, will also be made available. Matched funding of £1m is now needed to enable the project to go ahead.

On this site, you will find information about What’s On, The Story of ,our restoration plans, how to hire the building, fundraising, how you can help and much more.
